Hey everyone my name is Carrie and im new here. I joined this community because i love everything about Harry Potter. I have been into it since the Philosophers Stone came out and have loved it ever since. my room is a kind of shrine to Harry Potter and i collect anything to do with it.I hope to chat to you all soon and hope you have a good day! :)
Sorry I haven't been posting the HP news lately; College finals and all that fun stuff. I would be very happy to appoint a deputy reporter if any one would be brave enough to come forward and claim this noble responsibility. Full moderator benifits and such. It really is disheartening to do this but college life and a job take all my spare time. :-( Anyone up to it? E-mail me at email@example.com to apply and recieve full details of job. I know it sounds like a real job application, but we need to keep with reporter standards, giving full credit to the deserved and the structure of the reports. Anyway, full details with application.Application1) Why do you want this position?2) How long have you loved Harry Potter?3) What makes you an ideal person for this position?4) Have you any experience with reporting news? (school paper?)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Hi everyone! My name is Emily. I'm 19 yrs old and I've been a steady HP fan since I was 12. I saw all the movies opening night. Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban made me cry. I've only seen Goblet of Fire twice. We only have one car to spare between us and I don't have my driver's license yet. I made my parents go with me and it's all I've talked about since I saw it. I loved the bathroom scene with Myrtle. Hilarious.
Ok...I will give the good first and the bad last.
All-in-all hilarious! The boys of the Trio looking for dates is just hysterical!
Alan Rickman gives a truely Alan Rickman performance, there's no other way to put it. >D He goes from creepy to extremely funny in three lines. Gotta love him. The end brings tears to the eye! Just...*sigh*...I mean...when Cedric dies. Voldemort. I'm at a loss; brilliant would be an understatement and creepy only scratches the serface. The trio's acting abilities have grown so much! Again, when Harry is crying over Cedric's body...it'll make you cry, no doubt. Harry and Ron's fight is truely amusing. >D Rita Skeeter was DEAD ON! THE TWINS ARE MY HEROES! THEY ARE DEAD ON as well! OH MY GOD! For the little time Sirius was "on screen", they definately caught the marauders' sense of humor in there. YAY! Sirius has the shoeboxy humor! YAY! Neville! You are amazing! I love you! You wild boy, you! ;-)
Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody deserves a paragraph all his own. The eye is insane! He is very intense. No one could have played him better. Just...WOW!
I really like the way they did the portkey; not quite the way I imagined it, but inspired all the same. The dragon looks fantastic! Then there is the maze. Just plain scary!
The bathtub scene....*dies* Moaning Murtle is....let's just say I had an almost irrepressible urge to fall on the floor and roll around laughing my ass off...literally. Oh, for the Dan Fans: you get to see a bit more of him in this movie. *nudgenudgewinkwink* Lots of people were wistling, of course. *fake innocent face*The ferret scene. Another "ROTF" moment. Moody! I clapped. Seriously, and got the rest of the theater to clap with me! YAY! He so deserved it!The scene where the twins get those ridiculous beards! >D *dies* I LOVE THE TWINS IN THIS MOVIE!
I don't like Dumbledore that much in this one. Gambon had it right in the third movie! Remeber at the end on the Time Turner scene where he says, "Did what? Good night." Then he just walks away humming to himself. Ok, that's how Dumbledore is. In GOF, he's very emotional. I do have to give him this though: he is very cool at the end.
Ok, I get why they cut out the Dursely's, Winky, Dobby, Ludo Bagman, most of the Quidditch World Cup, Professor Tralawney, the infirmery scene, Sirius at the end, Voldemort killing his father in the beginning, but why did they cut out catching Rita Skeeter at the end? That's kind of important! >D Oh my god! I just realized that they cut out Harry giving the Twins the Triwizard winnings! The Weasley's Wizard Weezes is really important in the 6th installment! *shakes head*
If I were going to give this movie a rating, I would give it 3.7 stars as far as Harry Potter movies go and a 9 out of 10 over all. A definate must see!
Note: People that have not read the books will actually be able to follow this movie! YAY!
Oh My GOD! I mean....Moody and...the graveyard scene....and then Voldemort...just.....WOW! BLOODY AMAZING! Let me calm down a bit and I'll write the review. Suffice it to say, it will be good!
Music = Life
As you all know, the GOF Soundtrack came out a couple of days ago. I
was fortunate enough to get a copy today and let me tell you: BLOODY
AllMusic.com posted this review of it where they say, "Darker, bolder, and a little less magical, Doyle doesn't reach the
dizzying heights achieved by Williams on 2004's Prisoner of Azkaban,
but he has managed to create some new and exciting themes that
integrate themselves seamlessly into the Potter universe."
I most certainly have to disagree with this assessment. True, it is
darker and bolder, but that is what makes it more magical! It's more
mature magic. Ok, John Williams is my musical hero, composing for Star
Wars AND Harry Potter; nothing will compare to his genius. This
soundtrack still sounds BLOODY FANTASTIC!
J.K.Rowling Nominated for Person Of The Year!
Now is the time to vote for J.K.Rowling in Time Magazine's Person of the Year Contest! Come on you lot, she deserves it!
I hope I'm not the only one, but I'm really sick of all the interviews.
Yes, interviews happen when promoting a movie but, to be honest, this
movie really doesn't need to be promoted. People were posting
behind-the-scenes pictures from GOF a year ago. However, I did happen
to notice a comment Michael Gambon said in an interview with Empire Magazine. When he was asked what makes Dumbledore such an awesome character, his reply was, "I have no idea. I learn the lines that JK Rowling or whoever writes
them, and say them. There’s no subtext in Harry Potter really; it’s all
magic, anything can happen."
*drums fingers* I MISS RICHARD HARRIS! *tear* Is it not plainly obvious why Dumbledore is amazingly cool? I mean, come on!
You can download their joint podcast here and see pictures from the New York premier here and the Podcast here. Unfortunately, there are no transcripts as of yet but it should be up soon.
This is what Newsweek has to say about GOF, but mainly Mad-Eye Moody:
The uncontestable triumph of "Goblet of Fire," however, is Brendan
Gleeson's Alastor (Mad-Eye) Moody, the grizzled new Defense Against the
Dark Arts professor. With a face like cracked pottery and a manner both
menacing and mentoring, he becomes Harry's protector as he faces
life-threatening tests. Gleeson, one of the screen's greatest character
actors, steals every scene he's in-no small feat when you're up against
Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman.
....Wow. Just, wow! *is extremely giddy*
A Post From Leaky
I don't think I'm able to put this any better so let's just quote it, then comment:
News agency AFP is running a story outlining the positions of the proponents and the critics of the use of magic in the Harry Potter
books and films. One camp, represented by Christian preacher Steve
Wohlberg asserts that the stories "[present] really evil, versus
greater evil, it is not really good versus evil. The Harry Potter story
is communicating a story to young people, the idea that you can be a
good witch or wizard, you can still cast spells."
The opposing view, as articulated by University of Maryland
Professor of English Verlyn Flieger, is that " . . . people who really
worry about something satanic or occult in the story don't understand
the use of metaphor. It is really a pretty straightforward story about
coming of age, growing up and going to school -- the magic part of it
is really a gimmick."
You can read the entire article here.
Note: Our own Melissa Anelli is quoted in the article (with her name misspelled)!

I'll add more links as they become available so keep an eye on this post this week.
Rotten Tomatoes has six...well, 8 really, reviews of GOF that are very postive! Wow! Positive reviews; how very rare indeed!
For a laugh, how about we have a link to some pictures from King Kong. This movie looks very....well, interesting, to say the least.
Potty and Proud!
This person needs a good talking too! Hey lady, I may not be the sanest person in the world, but I can relate to the books because of my fucking childhood! It's all in good fun, bitch! Pardon my language, but I'm not the only one that needs to get a clue. Think: since when was death and dismemberment for-children content?
The Cranky Old Men Muppets Review
Remember those grumpy yet hilarious old guys from the muppets? Well, here is there review of GOF! >D
I Got Lucky!
I am privilaged to go to the Midnight Premier of GOF on Thursday! As quickly as possible, I will be putting my very own review of the movie. No, I won't be recapping since you all know the story(I hope), but I will be telling you what they replaced with what, additions, subtractions, etc. The only thing I will be recapping is the events, like if there was anyone dressed like Snape. ;)
10 DAYS LEFT! YAY! *does a jig similar to monkey steps ;)* Ok, there have been way too many clips coming up and commercials and interviews, so I have decided not to put them up. Some of the best scenes have already been ruined for me. Ok, that didn't stop me downloading all of them, putting them in cronological order and watching them over and over but the movie opens next week; you can wait that long. ;) That doesn't mean that I'm not putting anything up though:
World Premier Pictures:
There is a link below, but I just wanted to share this picture with you...
I actually really like this, uh...bold outfit he has on there. Very flattering there Dan! >D
Anyway, go here to see the rest of Getty's pictures and here to see Mugglenet's pictures. Read reports of the event here, here and here. Now, Mugglenet will be having a live broadcast show in New York when the US premier begins. I will give you a link to download it when available.
HBP Collecting Dust?
2.5 Million copies of HBP are collecting dust in warehouses all over America! Possibly, the GOF movie will spark more interest in the book so they can sell the rest.
Advanced Screener Watches and Reviews
extralonglife , one-time staff member of Mugglenet, was able to attend a Cast-and-Crew-Only screening of GOF! See his review here.
Another Dan Interview
The November issue of Time will have an interview with Dan Radcliffe.
Harry Amongst The Giants
The 29th annual International Antiquarian Book Fair in Boston had a display of rare books from Ernest Hemingway, Robert Frost and a signed copy of The Prisoner of Azkaban with 2 printing errors.
A new clip/commercial here shows more of the Quidditch World Cup. It also shows Ron putting on his dress robes, checking himself in the mirror and saying to Harry, "Murder me, Harry." Poor kid.
You can download the trailer for the GOF video game here.
( Voldemort or Death Eater?Collapse )
VIDEO GAME STUFF
New images from the GOF Video Game:
( I WILL WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA YOU TO DEATH!Collapse )
There are a lot of things to put up, but since the mouse for my computer likes to stop working for some reason, I will put up just a clip. This new clip shows the scene where the champions get their model of their dragon before the First Task! It's pretty cool. ;)
Hey, remeber that special on the Kids WB that I mentioned a while ago? Well, here it is!
Also a new commercial was aired during SNL! It shows more Death Eaters, more of the Graveyard scene and a lot more!
That's the last time I take a week off. TOO MANY THINGS! Sorry this took so long; ok, let's start with...
New Look For HP.com
HP.com(.co.uk) now has a better GOF theme with more info about the movie and all it's characters!
Some Songs From The Soundtrack Anyone?
At Ease Web, a Radiohead fansite, has posted a 38 second clip of the
song they provided for the GOF movie! However, you can download the
full edition plus another song from the soundtrack "The Adventure
Continues" here. The song from Radiohead sounds like a mix between Franz
Ferdinand and The Sex Pistoles, very nifty, and the second sounds like
Harry Potter meets Tim Burton with a little Lord of the Rings and Star
Wars thrown in there; bloody BRILLIANT!
To add a note: there is a GOF Soundtrack Website! It's kick ass! DO THE HIPPOGRIFF IS THE BEST SONG IN THE WORLD! *jumps around like a monkey with a jig in there somewhere*
The Extra! Special that aired a few days ago now has a synopse-like thing here.
New Mini-Site Up And Running
The Yule Ball mini-site is now ready to view via Bolt.com! Also, a sneek preview of the Dark Mark site can be found here.
More Detailed GOF Overview
An extremely detailed overview of GOF can be read here. If you really need me to put up a spoiler warning.....go away. There are a lot of spoilers in this community.
MuggleNet/Leaky Cauldron live show moving!
Big news! Due to popular demand, Barnes & Noble has decided to move the live Potter/Mugglemuch larger B&N, in Union Square in Manhattan (33 East 17th Street, which is between Broadway and Park Avenue). This
doesn't make much of a difference for those who were planning on coming
- it's still a short cab ride or subway ride away, just downtown
instead of up. And on the plus side: the store has 300 seats and room for hundreds
of people to stand; it will allow us to broadcast the audio through the
store and has capabilities for us to show it on other floors via
videoscreens as well. Basically, it will mean that a lot fewer of you
will end up unhappy because you couldn't see it live. The recording will be the evening of November 12 - more specific time to come - right after the domestic premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which will be at the Ziegfeld theater on 54th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. If
you'd like to let us know you're coming - WHICH DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU
A SEAT - it's first-come, first-serve, as more than 500 of you have
already told us you'll be there! - or offer any assistance, coffee or
cookies, please do so at hplive at gmail dot com. Thank you!
Running Time Confirmed
The running time for GOF has been confirmed by Veritaserum. It stands at 156 minutes and 25 seconds--13 minutes are dedicated to the credits "with bits of humor". Interesting....
You Wanna Know Why PG-13?
I'll tell ya anyway. As it says
in USA TODAY, "Scenes that may be of concern to parents include creepy
spiders crawling on schoolchildren, fire-breathing dragons, monstrous
mermaids, a character nearly suffocated by vines and a near-drowning.
The film also contains mild profanity, sexual innuendo and the death of
a main character." Later, Mike Newell adds, "Audiences that began with
No. 1 and are now 14, 15, 16 years old will kind of want to know you
are not infantilizing the situation. These are not children's books;
these are adult stories."
I do have to mention that they forgot dismemberment. Wait...how can they forget that? They can't cut that out! NOOOOOOO!

I promise that, in my next post, you will get the motherload of clips, pictures and news. For a teaser, here are a couple of pictures that will, at least, entertain you until my next post.

HBP title different in Brazille?
The Brazillian translation, which comes out November 26th, has a different title: Harry Potter e o Enigma do Príncipe which means Harry Potter and the Enigma of the Prince. Says mugglenet, "Apparently, JK Rowling was presented with a number of titles and chose this one herself." Very interesting title to say the least.
Phelps go to Chicago
James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley) will be at the Hollywood Blvd Theatre in Woodridge, IL on November 18-20 for a "meet and greet". Get your autograph books, sharpies and cameras out because they will talk to--and sign autographs for--the fans.

Mike Newell's Post-Project
After he is finished with GOF, Mike Newell will be directing a movie called Love In The Time Of Cholera, an adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' Nobel-prize winning novel.
"The story tells of a decades spanning love triangle set in South America and was first published in 1985, winning instant acclaim. The screenplay has been written by The Pianist scribe Ronald Harwood.New Line, the studio behind the adaptation, is scouting locations Central and South America with an eye to a spring 2006 start."
